While there are many tools to synchronize files and folders, there are few programs that help us compare the contents of two seemingly equal files.
Diff Doc is a useful text documents (or text folders on your hard disk) comparison tool that allows you to check the differences between two versions of the same text, or among the changes occurred on the contents of two files, documents or directories.
DiffDoc can compare documents in a wide variety of formats (DOC, XLS, TXT, RTF, HTML), keeping its original formatting. It doesn't matter if they have different format. It will show the differences in two different ways: comparing files side by side or in the same panel (and toggle between them). To locate the differences, simply press the 'refresh and show differences' button on the task bar, and the program highlights the differences automatically. You can edit the documents within the application to make the changes you find appropriate, navigating easily through the differences highlighted by the program, paragraph by paragraph, word by word or letter by letter. You can even compare two different sections from the same file. You can take advantage of its shortcut keys to jump from one highlighted text to another
DiffDoc can be integrated into the Windows Explorer Shell for quick comparisons, and can also run from the command line
All the differences between two files and changes made in them can be logged on a full report with MS Word, HTML, txt or CVS format.
Pros
- It is the most complete documents comparison tool I've found
- The developers extend your trial upon request
Cons
- Slows down the system when you use large document files
A well written program! Comprehensive in scope, and very user friendly
